Writers in Townsville Society Inc. aims to encourage and assist in writing, research, editing, proof-reading, personal publishing, etc in the North Queensland region. Exchange of manuscripts for editing and critique is encouraged. There is a manuscript reading service with comments and discussion of individual work. A monthly newsletter provides information on group activities, competitions, workshops, guest speakers and publishing.

There are occasional weekend group outings to in-town and out-of-town locations for write-ins, workshops and bookstalls.

WITS liases with writing groups in Ingham, Cairns, Bowen, Innisfail, Charters Towers and Mackay.

WITS meets every Wednesday night at 7:30pm at Riverside Community Centre, Riverside Boulevard. Newcomers are welcome.
